Tanna Neufeld is a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist and AAC consultant with over 12 years of clinical experience working with children who use AAC. She is an assistant teaching professor and clinical educator at the University of Washington and operates a private, donation-based AAC consulting practice in Seattle, Washington. Tanna is also the founder of AACcessible.org.

This training is Part 1 of a four-part series on how to conduct the elements of a comprehensive AAC assessment. Here you will learn how to modify your traditional speech and language assessment protocol to obtain the communication and access information you need for successful treatment planning and the AAC feature matching process. This is a pre-recorded, on-demand training.

Upon completion of this class, you will be able to:
• Utilize a communicative independence framework (The “AAC Journey Framework”) to guide your AAC assessments, from start to finish.
• Identify at least three assessment strategies to assist in intervention planning and AAC feature matching for complex communicators in the earliest stages of communication development.
• Define and describe at least three core assessment areas essential to effective feature matching for complex communicators with varying abilities.
• Develop and execute an effective communication assessment plan to inform the next steps in the AAC assessment process (Feature Matching, System Design, and Trial).
This class can be taken alone or as the first in the series. It is designed for beginning to intermediate AAC professionals, including speech-language pathologists, behavior professionals with communication expertise, and educators.
