This resource guide was written to help parents navigate the early stages of understanding and implementing low tech augmentative and alternative communication (AAC_ tools and strategies for children with autism. It was created as a social service project by Lehar Goenka of India. Leha and her family are touched by autism and hoped that creating this resource would help families like them get a successful start to building communication skills through AAC. You can learn more about Lehar and her development of this guide on our blog here.
This resource guide is not meant to prescribe a generic set of tools or strategies for all children with autism nor is it designed to replace professional assessment and intervention services. Readers are encouraged to obtain information from this guide as a part of but not all of the comprehensive understanding needed to best support individuals who communicate with AAC and those with autism.
